Tradespeople honoured at awards

Young tradesmen and women were among those honoured at the Central Otago community awards.

About 200 people turned out for the event, run by Central Otago District Council, this week in Maniototo Park Stadium in Ranfurly.

Businesses and individuals were recognised for their skills and contributions to the region. The apprentice winners were Kurt Verduyn for carpentry and Morgan Boyd for automotive work.

Margot Streeter, 16, of Cromwell, Willie Miller, 16, of Ranfurly and Rowan Tumai, 18, of Roxburgh, won youth enterprise awards.

Cromwell Holiday Park's owners won the tourism award and community service awards went to Hazel Harrison, of Naseby, Joanna Rea, of Millers Flat, Linda Armstrong, of Becks, Stewart McKnight, of Ranfurly and Ruth Reid, of Alexandra.

Jackie Hamilton, of Cromwell Pharmacy, won a business excellence award and Ray Carey, of Alexandra, won a brand ambassador award for promoting Central Otago.

Winners received trophies made by artist Bill Clark, of Roxburgh.
