Bronze, Silicon, Biology: The Past, Present and Future of Computing

Abstract

It's easy to imagine that a computer is a silicon-based device, but the truth is far stranger. In this talk I'll take you back to the origins of computing, through the theory the underlies computing and what it tells us about the future of computer science and computing devices. From the dreams of ancient mathematicians, through Babbage's mechanical computers to tomorrow devices.
