Belle River has also received ISO 14001 certification.

Presque Isle
Location: MI

Quick facts: Presque Isle occupies a 65ac site on Lake Superior in the Upper Peninsula. The $280mn, baseload plant burns about 2mn tpy of coal supplied by barge. Generating equipment was damaged by major flooding on the Dead River in May 2003 The units have all been retrofit with baghouses from Environmental Elements and Wheelabrator. The stacks are 450ft tall.  Presque Isle generates 90% of the UP's electricity and also supplies the Tilden and Empire taconite mining complexes. Units 7-9 burn PRB coal and are the site of a $53mn demonstration project for the Toxecon mercury control system. This went operational in May 2006.

The plant serves 56,000 students, faculty and support staff on a 2,000ac campus with around 85 buildings.  It is directly connected to the campus 13.8kV grid. The plant's maximum steam output is 1.1mn lbs/hr with average winter loads at about 650,000 lbs/hr

JB Sims 3

Quick facts: This facility is on Harbor Island in the middle of the Grand River. Unit-3 went online in Aug 1983 and cost $88.5mn. Of this, about $25mn was invested in an ESP and a wet lime FGD system, both from B&W. About 12 shipments of coal are received per year by lake vessel and fuel burn is about 550 tpd. Sims 1&2 were both 10 MW and installed from 1959-61. These were taken offline in 1986. Sims-3 provides 95% of Grand Haven BLP’s electricity and serves 13,400 customers in Grand Haven, Ferrysburg, Grand Haven Township, Robinson Township and Spring Lake Township.
