OFC FUTSAL CHAMPIONSHIP 2009 – KURUKURU PUT FIVE PAST FIJI

Tuesday, 07 July 09, 08:50 PM

The Solomon Islands have continued their hot goal scoring form at the OFC Futsal Championship with a 5-3 win over host nation Fiji on Match Day 2.

Fiji put in a brave effort to hold the Oceania Futsal champions to a 1-1 at halftime.

Against the run of play it was Fijian captain Kamal Hassan who opened the scoring for his team in the eighth minute after winning an aerial challenge in the Solomon’s goal circle and reacting quickest to slide the ball past the keeper.

The Solomon Islands drew level on 14 minutes as Jenan Kapu swiveled and shot in one movement just outside the Fijian circle.

Fiji suffered an injury setback less than a minute later when livewire Joseph Mishra fell heavily and was stretched away from the playing area.

As was the case in their opening match against New Caledonia, the Kurukuru managed to lift their intensity substantially in the second half and it paid off just two minutes into the new period as Micah Lea'alafa put his team ahead for the first time.

Lea'alafa and his teammates weren't ready to stop there, he added a third goal on 29 minutes while captain Elliot Ragomo added a third after 30 minutes and Jack Wetney rounded out the Solomon's scoring on the half hour.

Fiji were able to add an additional two goals to their total through Mohammed Shalmeen and Kamal Hassan who grabbed his second of the match.

To the Fiji team, your type of game has cost you today as one of your players was injured when challenged for an aerial ball. Can you just try to put the ball flow on the floor like the Kurukuru.
This type of game of throwing aerial ball by your keeper to the other gate is a late 60's type of game which played in the coconut plantaions back in Solomons by the labors.

    Can you make a
stop to this type of game? We are in new mellinium guys and we are inproving in all forms of soccer both in door and out door. GO OFC GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The competition is set up so that the winners of the finals goes through. And we all know what happens in soccer. A totally different team shows up and unexpected results are often produced.
Spain fell, Brazil struggled from 2-nil down; the difference is the mental toughness that players bring to the field. I hope Kurukuru is absolutely ready in that regard. All the best for the
    finals.

Hello everyone, just a comment on the game kurukuru v fiji last night...kurukuru had outclass their opponents. They were just too good for the fijians. we're really proud of the yound lads for
flying the blue, yellow and green last night...wow!. There was a statement in the newspaper in the media here in fiji and it speaks well of a someone who is very proud and have no respect for his
team's opponent, and as a solomon islander - this is totally disrespectful coming from the fijian futsal coach. This was his statement "...that we will put solomon islands futsal team behind
bars". All the solomon supporters went to watch the game with the statement in our minds and we were all giving our best in supporting our boys last night....the kurukuru boys proved that
statement wrong when they netted 5 clear goals and entertained the crowd throghout the game.
