Pedro M. Ferreira was born in Portugal in 1970. He received the five-year first degree in systems engineering and computing and the Ph.D. degree in electronics engineering and computing from the University of Algarve, Faro, Portugal, in 1996 and 2008, respectively. In 1995 and 1996, he was a Student Assistant with the Faculty of Sciences and Technology, University of Algarve. Between 1997 and 2006, he was a Teaching Assistant with the School of Technology and the Faculty of Sciences and Technology, University of Algarve. In 2007 and 2008 he was a Marie Curie Research Fellow at Unilever Research and Development Port Sunlight, Wirral, U.K. Presently he is a research fellow in the Algarve Science and Technology Park and the Centre for Intelligent Systems of the University of Algarve. His main research interests are artificial neural networks, environmental control, and computational intelligence methods. He is a member of the IFAC technical committee for computational intelligence in control (3.2).
