domain of specialization
The main scientific activity has been centred in the study of the decomposition process in low order streams and the effects of stress factors (exotic afforestations, increase in water temperature, stream contamination by toxics) in this key ecosystem-level process. Research has been focused on the importance of the leaf - fungi – invertebrate relationships in temperate streams. Particular attention was given to the physico-chemical characteristics of the detritus and its importance in stream functioning, shredders ecophysiology and nutrient imbalances between leaf litter and shredders in streams affected by natural and/or anthropogenic stressors.

present investigation interests
I am interested in exploring the effects of forestry practices and other anthropogenic disturbances in streams ecosystem structure and function. My research is mainly focused on the importance of leaves physico-chemical characteristics and biodiversity (leaves and fungi) on invertebrate’s ecophysiology and organic matter processing in pristine and impacted streams as well as on their riparian areas.
