COMPETE aims to contribute to creating a more competitive economy based on knowledge-intensive activities, investing in tradable or possibly internationalized goods and services, and strengthening Portuguese companies’ qualifications and direction towards exports, while also promoting cost reduction linked to a greater efficiency of public services and transport improvement.
COMPETE 2020 focuses very significantly in smart growth and developing an economy based on knowledge and innovation, particularly within the fields of the Research and Innovation Strategy for a Smart Specialization. Companies, particularly SMEs, are preferred recipients, and this Program seeks to boost entrepreneurship, the ability to innovate and the development of more advanced strategies, grounded on qualified human resources and strong focused on cooperation and other forms of partnership, such as networks and clusters.
