I graduated in Biology at the University Porto in 1986. I teach at University Aveiro (UA) since 1986, where I concluded my PAPCC (1991), PhD (1998) and Habilitation for Full Professor (Agregação, 2007) in Biology. Presently I’m Associated Professor with tenure and Agregação (2007) at UA, and Senior Researcher at CESAM. I am the leader of the Laboratory of Biotechnology and Cytomics. Teaching: I've been responsible for teaching and program/curricula development of several courses (e.g Cell Biology, Biotechnology, Physiology, Cell & Tissue Culture,...). I have been involved in the creation and curricula definition of 1st, Master and PhD Courses (eg Biotechnology-UA, MAPBioPlant). I am the PhD BioPlant director at UA. I elaborated the official Biology Programs for secondary school for the TL Minister of Education (2009-2013). Since 2013 I'am consultant for Education&Science Minister for biology field of national basic national programmes. Training: I supervise(d) 1 assistant researcher, 12 pos-docs grants, 22 PhD and 42 Master students. I participated in 89 National/international professional/Post graduation juries. Main Scientific research and Group Leader: plant sciences and environmental / toxicological sciences (eg climate changes, nanoparticles), combining functional and genomic tools. I participate/ed in 24 National/International Projects being coordinator of 10 (5 intersectoral R&D). Publications, reviewer and editing : I’m co-author of 1 review book on metal toxicity, 6 Manuals/Guides of Biology, 2 books on East Timor natural resources/health; 15 chapters, and 125 ISI papers (HF=20; 1421 citations). I am reviwer, co-editor of scientific journals. Expert: I have been a Member of International/European Evaluation Commissions and scientific adviser for several meetins. I integrate(d) several groups of: Evaluators of European Projects People–Marie Curie, 7th FW (2010); Environment Panel, 7th FW/ , Brussels, EU (2010-2012).Progress evaluator of 3 european projects (2010-2012); Evaluator of European KBBE, Brussels and of INTAS CALLS (6th FP). I was also Evaluator of biotechnology projects for the German Government (Program GABI), International Science Foudation (ISF), for ParisSud (RBUCE), and for the czech republic programmes (2010-2012). Interctoral activities: R&D was established wit several biotecnology or pulp companies for forest biotechnology and with environment institutes for environment monitoring services.
