Crossings was the concluding activity of the research project Image in Science and Art. It included four major conferences, an international colloquium and an exhibition. The program was hold in Lisbon, at the fall of 2010-beginning of 2011. It aimed at widely disseminating the work and results of the project Image in Science and Art.
The four conferences were held at the Auditorium 2 of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation and were dedicated to current and relevant issues concerning the role of image in science, the ethical and social issues involved in contemporary medical imaging and the relation between science and art. They took place on the 17th of November 2010 – 'Taking it on Trust' in images of Nature, by Martin Kemp –, 15th of December 2010 – The Problem of a Picture of an Atom, by Chris Toumey –, 19th of January 2011 – Visiting time: The Renegotiation of Time through Time-Based Art, by Boris Groys and 2nd of February 2011
– Functional Images of the Brain: Beauty, Bounty, and Beyond, by Judy Illes.

The international colloquium took place during the 17th, 18th and 19th of February 2011, at the Auditorium 2 of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation. It was devoted to debate major theoretical issues concerning the epistemological, semiotic and diagrammatic nature of image, as well as its role in science and art. The discussion on image took into account some privileged historical contexts and philosophical traditions, and focused on its functions in our civilization.

The exhibition corpoIMAGEM took place from the 12th of February to the 27th of March 2011, at the Pavilion of Knowledge - Ciência Viva. It was an exhibition about images of the body and it displayed scientific and artistic representations of the body, since the 19th century until the present.
