PCMAT (Mathematics Collaborative Learning Platform) is a collaborative adaptive learning tool based on progressive assessment for Mathematics in Basic Schools. The learning platform is based on a constructivist approach, assessing the user knowledge and presenting contents and activities adapted to the characteristics and learning style of the student. The intelligent behavior of such platform depends on the existence of a tentative description of the student – the student model. The contents of this model and the student most prominent learn-ing style are used by a domain and interaction model to select the most appropriate response to student actions. This model is also used to select the more appropriate learning object according the student learning stage. However, this selection demands for the access to metadata describing the contents of the learning object, in particular, the domain concepts involved. This need leaded to the application of a standard used to describe the learning objects. In fact, the authoring of learning objects corresponds to one of the major maintenance costs present in this kind of applications. Another feature of PCMAT platform to overcome this difficulty is the possibility to generate several instances of the same learning object through the parameterization of some features of the learning object. In order to improve the interaction experience, the platform is also able to process student responses in natural language. The main goal of the project is to show how techniques from Adaptive Hypermedia System (AHS) field can improve e-learning based systems in a basic school environment.

The aim of this paper is to present an adaptation model for an Adaptive Educational Hypermedia System, PCMAT. The adaptation of the application is based on progressive self-assessment (exercises, tasks, and so on) and applies the constructivist learning theory and the learning styles theory. Our objective is the creation of a better, more adequate adaptation model that takes into account the complexities of different users.

Learning Objects Recommendation in an Adaptive Educational Hypermedia System.  In Proceedings of the 8th WSEAS International Conference on Educational Technologies (EDUTE '12), 123 - 128. . desconhecido: WSEAS Press.
The aim of this paper is presenting the modules of the Adaptive Educational Hypermedia System PCMAT, responsible for the recommendation of learning objects. PCMAT is an online collaborative learning platform with a constructivist approach, which assesses the user s knowledge and presents contents and activities adapted to the characteristics and learning style of students of mathematics in basic schools. The recommendation module and search and retrieval module choose the most adequate learning object, based on the user's characteristics and performance, and in this way contribute to the system s adaptability.

The aim of this paper is to present an Educational Adaptive Hypermedia Tool, PCMAT, Based on Progressive Assessment and adapted to the student model and learning style. The adaptation of the application is based on progressive self-assessment (exercises, tasks, etc.). The learning platform was already implemented, tested and evaluated in learning processes in Basic Schools. Also, the paper defines and evaluates the characteristic of the User Model to be used in the Student Modeling.
