LIDA – Design and Arts Research Lab
Presentation
At LIDA we develop artistic, scientific and technological research, knowledge transfer in the subject field of art, design and artistic and cultural studies. We approach these areas in its practical, projectual and experimental aspects. But also in its critical and theoretical expressions in is cultural, social and ecological impact.
LIDA aims to extend its activities into transversal and interdisciplinary research projects that might emerge from either theoretical or practical fields and support the implementation of projects in partnership with the cultural, scientific and business community.
Our lab produces experimental, fundamental and applied research towards excellence in the fields of arts, design and cultural management, therefore we at LIDA, assume our position as a research unit with unique features in the regional, national and international contexts.
Thematic areas
The thematic areas are articulated within the disciplinary fields of knowledge and practice of LIDA members and of other researchers carrying out their work within this unit. In this sense, these areas can grasp a vast transversal and transdisciplinary nature that can generically be positioned in the Social Sciences and Humanities domain (as referred by the Foundation for Science and Technology – FCT). These thematic areas are contextual and can be characterized by their openness and integration abilities:
- Photography and Moving Image;
- Drawing;
- Multimedia, interaction design and new media;
- Communication design, graphic and editorial design, and Type design;
- Material and production technologies, sustainable development and eco-design;
- Design and product development, spaces and services;
- Contemporary art, artistic and cultural studies;
- Curatorial studies, arts and cultural management;
- Performing arts;
- Sound.
