The research units are the key elements for the development of research and scientific knowledge within the Institute, mainly on applied research. Currently, IPLeiria has 19 research units, which carry out their activity in several scientific fields: Accessibility, Anthropology, Arts and Design, Legal Sciences, Communication, Economics, Education, Electronics, Management, Computer Sciences, Mechanics, Human Kinetics, Biotechnology and Marine Resources, Health, Social Services, Sociology, Telecommunications and Tourism.
Social Sciences and Humanities
iACT’s main mission is to develop scientific and interdisciplinary research in the field of Communication Sciences, by taking on fundamental, applied and experimental approaches. Simultaneously, it aims to develop methodologies, techniques and products and to offer training and services to the community, while intervening in society itself (improving conditions and attitudes). iACT further aims to develop the skills of people with special needs.
CIGS’s aim is to contribute to the creation and dissemination of knowledge in Management and Sustainability areas, respecting the plurality of knowledge. The center is focused on improving the competitiveness of organizations in a triple bottom line, integrating the social, economic and environmental pillars.
CITUR’s aim is to promote research, science communication, continuing education and the provision of services in the various fields of tourism and related areas.
Exact Sciences and Engineering
CIIC has as its mission to train high level researchers in Informatics and Communications, in cooperation with national and international entities of recognized quality, in order to promote the transfer of technology from within the school to the industry, also enabling the creation of spin-off companies from the Center and the provinding of techno-scientific consulting services to public and private entities.
ADAI has been supporting fundamental and applied research in the domain of industrial aerodynamics and other correlated areas. Particular attention is paid to the specific problems of the Portuguese Industry in order to achieve higher levels of modernisation and competitivity.
To develop new materials, products and chemical technologies for sustainability, and simultaneously to promote advanced training in these areas. The LCM research effort is mainly focused in two scientific fields of major significance: Carbon Materials and Catalysis.
The objective of the LSRE is the development of new methodologies, concepts, ideas and experimental techniques to understand, design, operate and optimize Separation and Reaction Processes involved in Process and Product Engineering.
INESC aims at contributing to the progress of scientific and technical knowledge, integrating competences in several Engineering Sciences and in Management Science/Operations Research within a systems engineering approach, creatively combining theory and methodology, technical issues and human factors to tackle complex problems.
Natural and Environmental Sciences
MARE-IPLeiria’s main purpose is to create, develop and apply knowledge related to marine resources in order to promote innovation in their use and to contribute to the development of new marine products.
Life and Health Sciences
CIMH crucial purposes are to develop projects, carry out studies, and enhance scientific knowledge in the different broads related to Sports and Well-Being. Thus, CIMH defines as main fields of action: i) Sports Training; ii) Physical Activity and Health; iii) Motor Learning and Control; and iv) Sports Pedagogy.
UIS is deeply committed in developing interdisciplinary scientific research studies and activities on health sciences, in order to formulate strategies of promoting a better and improved health among the populations.
The CIEQV focuses its research in the following areas: a) food production (food security and sustainable agriculture), b) physical activity as a condition for the citizens life quality, c) education in its various aspects, combined with the creation and use of innovative and applied technology, and d) the working people life quality. In this way the research promoted by CIEQV will have a multidisciplinary, interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary knowledge approach in the mentioned areas in order to enhance innovation and scientific excellence.
