Master in Nursing to the person in critical condition
Goals
- To develop specialised nursing interventions for medium and high risk patients and involving the family in the health team;
- To boost the response to disaster or multi-victim emergencies, from conception to action;
- To maximise the intervention to prevent and control infection in the critically ill and/or in the event of organ failure, given the complexity of the situation and the need for the appropriate response at the right time;
- To perform the role of expert in the health team in the realm of nursing people in critical conditions;
- To stimulate the building up and dissemination of knowledge in the field of nursing people in critical condition;
- Promote the ability to take ethical decisions;
- Encourage change and innovation processes in the light of scientific knowledge and research;
- To know the strategies and the importance of resource management in care;
- Develop capacity for organization and evaluation of nursing care.
Intended learning outcomes
- MSc degree is awarded to the student who demonstrates Care for people in an emergent critical condition;
- Manage the administration of treatment protocols;
- Manage the interpersonal communication that underlies the therapeutic relationship with a person/family regarding the high complexity situation of their health condition;
- Does the management of differentiated pain and well-being of the person in critical condition; Design, in conjunction with the strategic level, disaster or emergency plans;
- Plan the specific response to persons in an emergency situation or a multi-victim disaster; Design a prevention and infection control plan;
- Displays the ability to review and critical analysis, ability to autonomous organization and planning with a view to solving problems in new situations, ability to research and application of concepts to the practice, planning and time management, ability to teamwork,ethical behavior, motivation and initiative;
- Prepares and presents communications.

Conditions of admission
Entry Requirements
- Holders of a degree or legal equivalent in Nursing;
- Holders of a foreign academic degree conferred following a 1st cycle of studies organized according to the principles of the Bologna Process by a State acceding to this process in nursing.

Observations
The Masters course is organized into four semesters totaling 120 ECTS which is consistent with that specified in paragraph 1 of Article 18 of Decree Law 74/2006 of 24 March. The study plan comprehends four semesters and is structured as follows: the first semester includes 4 study units totaling 30 credits, the second semester is composed by 6 study units) and 30 credits, the 3rd and 4th semesters are devoted to a Clinical Training Report /dissertation in the area of the study plan, which sums 1620 hours, and a total of 60 credits.The traineeship are professional in nature and will be elaborated a final report. The dissertation is also subject of a final report.
