Memorandum of Understanding with Alcatel-Lucent Portugal and Bell Labs (Bell Labs)
Participation in Actions within Specific Partnerships with Foreign Entities:
- MIT – Portugal Program, launched on October 11, 2006 (in Portuguese) within the action Partnerships for the Future, in which the President of UMIC integrates the program Governing Committee, with meetings every semester.
Participation in the 1st Annual Conference of the MIT – Portugal Program, on July 7, 2009, Lisbon, in which the strategy of the MIT – Portugal Program for the next years resulting from an increasing involvement of research centers and enterprises is presented and discussed. This strategy centers the Program in three application areas of Engineering Systems:- Sustainable energy and transport systems;
- Stem cells and tissue engineering for new terapies of regenerative medicine;
- Product design and engineering, with special applications in electric vehicles and mobile biomedical devices.
- Carnegie Mellon – Portugal Program, launched on October 27, 2006 (in Portuguese) within the action Partnerships for the Future, in which the President of UMIC integrates the program Board of Directors and UMIC is one of the institutions in the Program.
Series of Seminars on Research on Public Policy of ICT organized by ISR Lisbon and by UMIC (6 sessions between February and October of 2008).
- UTexas Austin – Portugal, launched on March 2, 200 (in Portuguese) within the action Partnerships for the Future, in which the President of UMIC integrates the program Board of Directors and UMIC is one of the institutions in the Program.
- Harvard Medical School – Portugal, launched on May 21, 2009 (in Portuguese) within the action Partnerships for the Future, in which the President of UMIC integrates the program Board of Directors and UMIC is one of the institutions in the Program, namely for the component of development of a platform management and provision of digital content on medicine and biomedical research for medicine students, medicine practitioners and the general public.
On April 27, 2009, took place a visit of the Minister and the Secretary of State of Science, Technology and Higher Education of Portugal to Harvard Medical School (in Portuguese), with the President of FCT e and the President of UMIC, within the preparation of the partnership between Harvard Medical School and Portugal.
On July 30, 2008, UMIC launched a public call for acquisition of hardware, software, data bases, firewall, anti-virus and respective maintenance, for supporting the national platform for health and biomedical research contents to be developed within the Harvard Medical School – Portugal Program.
On July 23, 2008, UMIC launched a public call for the acquisition of a medical information and biomedical research knowledge platform, and the respective maintenance to be developed within the Harvard Medical School – Portugal Program.
On 10-12 July, 2008, in Lisbon, took place the Workshop within the process of evaluation of opportunities for collaboration in the Harvard Medical School – Portugal Program (in Portuguese), with extensive participation of representatives of Portuguese institutions in the field of medicine and biomedical sciences, and UMIC, in connection with the component of production and publication of digital content on health and biomedical research, which was attended by Luis Magalhães, President of UMIC, Pedro Ferreira, Member of the Board of Directors of UMIC, and Maria Jordão of UMIC.
On 17-19 April 2008, within the preparation of the Harvard Medical School – Portugal, Program, were organized visits of the Harvard Medical School delegation to the medical schools and the Associate Laboratories with activities in biomedical sciences of Lisbon (17th of April), Coimbra and Porto (18th of April), and Braga and Covilhã (19th of April) with technical support assured by Maria Jordão of UMIC.
- Fraunhofer – Portugal Program, launched on Abril 18, 2007 (in Portuguese) within the action Partnerships for the Future, in which the President of UMIC integrates the Steering Committee, which net 10 times up to mid 2009, and UMIC is one of the institutions that signed the Program agreement that led to the creation on May 2008, in Porto, of the Fraunhofer Portugal Research Center for Assistive Information and Communication Solutions (AICOS), with the objective of becoming the 1st Fraunhofer Institute outside Germany, and the creation of the “Fraunhofer Portugal Association” on November 2008.
- MoU with Alcatel-Lucent Portugal and the Bell Labs (in Portuguese), signed on June 20, 2008, in which the President of UMIC integrates the Steering Committee and UMIC is one of the institutions subscribing the agreement.
