Preparatory Meeting of the 2008 Internet Governance Forum
- 25/02/2008The 1st preparatory meeting for the 3rd meeting of the IGF – Internet Governance Forum was held on 26 February 2008 at the United Nations in Geneva. The latter meeting took place in Hyderabad, India, on 3-6 December 2008. The IGF was set up in the second phase of the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) held in Tunis from 16 -18 November 2005 (see Portugal participates in the World Summit on the Information Society).
The 1st IGF Meeting took place in Athens on 30 October to 2 November 2006 and the 2nd IGF Meeting was held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on 12-15 November 2007 during the Portuguese Presidency of the European Union. At this IGF meeting, the President of The Knowledge Society Agency (UMIC) chaired the meetings of the EU Member States’ delegations and the European Commission to prepare an intervention on behalf of the EU at the "Taking Stock and the Way Forward" session – the last plenary session before the meeting was closed on 15 November.
At the EU Council of Ministers for the Information Society on 29 November 2007, the Portuguese Presidency presented a written information point on the 2nd Internet Governance Forum, held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on 12-15 November 2007.
On 17 January 2008, the European Parliament adopted a resolution on the 2nd IGF held in Rio de Janeiro
