The Knowledge Society Agency (UMIC), the Faculty of Economic and Entrepreneurial Sciences of the Universidade Católica Portuguesa (FCEE-Católica) and INTELI – Intelligence in Innovation – are organising a seminar on 15th December 2006 from 9 am to 1 pm at the FCEE-Católica entitled “Creative Commons in the Knowledge Society: The impact of the first four years”. The objective of the agenda (in Portuguese) is to celebrate the 4th anniversary of the Creative Commonslicenses and discuss the new challenges in protecting intellectual property.
The seminar’s keynote speaker will be Professor Lawrence Lessig from the University of Stanford, founder of Creative Commons, author of various groundbreaking works on the impact of technology in society and new challenges for the law, including The Future of Ideas, Code and Other Laws of Cyberspace, Free Culture.
Creative Commons Licenses enable authors to share work simply, efficiently and flexibly via a series of standard licenses which guarantee protection and freedom – with some reserved rights – and ensuring that due credit is given to the authors of the works at all times. Portugal adopted these licenses on 13th November 2006.
