Open Consultations and Meeting of the Internet Governance Forum's Advisory Group

Logótipo da WSIS – World Summit on the Information SocietyThe Open Consultations will be held at the United Nations in Geneva on 3rd September 2007 as part of the preparations for the 2nd Meeting of the IGF – Internet Governance Forum, which will take place in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, from 12th to 15th November 2007. The IGF was set up under the 2nd phase of the WSIS – World Summit on the Information Society, which was held in Tunis from 16th-18th November 2005. The 1st meeting of the IGF took place in Athens from 30th October to 2nd November 2006. As the Open Consultations are being held during the Portuguese Presidency of the European Union (EU), the Presidency will be represented by the Portuguese delegation headed by Luis Magalhães, President of Knowledge Society Agency (UMIC).

The United Nations Secretary-General’s Advisory Group for the IGF – Internet Governance Forum will also meet at the United Nations in Geneva on 4th and 5th September. When the United Nations Secretary-General renewed the Advisory Group's mandate on 20th August 2007, the group was given a new 47-member structure, which includes a member from Portugal for the first time, namely Luis Magalhães, president of Knowledge Society Agency (UMIC).
