“Microsoft” Invited Chair

CIÊNCIA 2008 initiative logo On 25 May 2009 a public meeting took place at the Pavilion of Knowledge (Pavilhão do Conhecimento), Parque das Nações. Lisbon, held in the presence of the Minister for Science, Technology and Higher Education, José Mariano Gago and the Director-General of Microsoft Portugal, Nuno Duarte, where the “Microsoft” Invited Chair project was presented in the area of information and communication systems applied to the health sector, thus setting forth one of the items envisaged in the Memorandum of Understanding between Microsoft and the Portuguese State on October 2008 (see  Microsoft Research Chair and Microsoft Software for Higher Education Students).

The “Microsoft" Invited Chair (see the formal notice) is co financed by Microsoft Portugal and by Science and Technology Foundation (FCT), under the scope of the Invited Chairs Program of this body which was launched at the session Science 2008: More Scientists for Portugal (in Portuguese), held at the University of Aveiro on 10 May 2008.

The researcher who will be awarded the “Microsoft” Invited Chair will be selected through an Application Process and hired by the University(ies) selected for a period of five years.

The Application Process will open on 25 May 2009 and applications sent to FCT will start to be assessed from 31 July 2009 onwards. The chair will start functioning from September 2009.

The "Invited Chairs" Program of FCT, launched in 2008, has already included Chairs sponsored by Nokia-Siemens, Martifer, Delta Cafés, Zon Multimedia, Toshiba, and Alcatel-Lucent.
