Ministerial Conference on the Internet of the Future

A Ministerial Conference on the Internet of the Future was held in Nice, France, on 6 October 2008 promoted by the French Presidency of the European Union. At the same time and in the same place, the conference entitled Internet of Things – Internet of the Future took place on 6 and 7 October.

The Ministerial Conference sessions were on: Digital Solidarity, Networks and Services of the Future (in the context of New Generation Networks), and Security and Governance for the Internet of the Future including the Internet of Things. The Portuguese delegation was headed by the President of Knowledge Society Agency (UMIC), representing the Minister for Science, Technology and Higher Education.

The Internet of Things – Internet of the Future arose following the Conference and Exhibition "On RFID – The next step to THE INTERNET OF THINGS" organised on 15 and 16 November 2007 along with Knowledge Society Agency (UMIC), IAPMEI -The Institute for Support to Small and Medium-Sized Companies (Instituto de Apoio às Pequenas e Médias Empresas e à Inovação, IP, and the Portuguese company Link Consulting, under the scope of the Portuguese Presidency of the EU and with the support of the European Commission, held following the Conference "RFID: Towards the internet of things" organised in Berlin on 25-26 June 2007, by the German Presidency along with the European Commission.
