Session to Open the European Year of Creativity and Innovation

Logo of the 2009 European Year of Creativity and Innovation in Portugal The official opening of the European Year of Creativity and Innovation in Portugal took place on 2 February 2009 in the Belem Cultural Centre.

The morning session consisted of the guest speaker, Don Tapscoot, giving a talk entitled “Governance 2.0: How the Internet Generation is changing governance, innovation and democracy”.

The afternoon session started with a session on "Learning, Inventing, Imagining, Cooperating”, chaired by Arminda Neves, Deputy Coordinator of the Office for National Coordination of the Lisbon Strategy and the Technological Plan and the artist Leonel Moura, the Portuguese representative in Launching the European Year of Creativity and Innovation. Talks were given by the following:

  • Dulce Maria Santa Marta Soure, Head of the Rafael Bordalo Secondary School,
  • Elvira Fortunato, Head of the Materials Research Centre CENIMAT (Centro de Investigação em Materiais)of FCT/UNL and the Research Laboratory I3N – the Institute for Nanostructures, Nanomodelling and Nanomanufacture,
  • Teresa Ricou, Director of the Circus School Chapitô,
  • Manuel Brandão Alves, Senior Professor at ISEG.

The following session was entitled “Communicate, Make, Do, Live”, and was chaired by Alexandra Sá Carvalho representing the European Commission. Talks were given by the following:

  • Augusto Mateus, Professor at  ISEG,
  • Nuno Gaioso Ribeiro, President of N?Partners,
  • Jorge Cerveira Pinto – INOVA Agency,
  • António Câmara, CEO Ydreams and Professor at FCT / UNL,
  • António Cunha, Head of the School of Engineering of the University of Minho,
  • Júlio Mendes, Councillor, Guimarães Town Hall.

The 2009 European Year of Creativity and Innovation is, under the terms of the Resolution of the Council of Ministers No. 4/2009, of 9 January (in Portuguese), being coordinated in Portugal by the Coordinator of the Lisbon Strategy and the Technological Plan, with the support of the Coordination Network for the Lisbon Strategy and the Technological Plan and of an operational task force which includes Knowledge Society Agency (UMIC), FCT - Foundation for Science and Technology, IP, the Institute for Support to Small and Medium-Sized Companies (IAPMEI – Instituto de Apoio às Pequenas e Médias Empresas), IP, Innovation, IP (Inovação, IP), the National Agency for Improvement (Agência Nacional para a Qualificação), the Directorate-General for Arts (Direcção Geral das Artes), the Portuguese Institute for Youth (IPJ - Instituto Português da Juventude) and the Institute for Employment and Professional Training (IEFP Instituto de Emprego e Formação Profissional).
