  • Next Generation Networks

    The development of NGN – Next Generation Networks is a strategic priority for Portugal. The coverage by NGN access is already very high and continues the investment in NGN in rural areas. The R&D in NGN and in the applications it can support is also a priority.

  • Broadband Community Networks

    The Knowledge Society Operational Programme issued a public call for tenders for Broadband Community Network projects from February to April 2006. It was mandatory for the project that promoters be public entities, which would then bear 55% of the total costs.

  • UMTS Working Group

    The UMTS Working Group was established in early 2001 with the aim of making the connection between the operators, the ICP – Institute of Communications of Portugal and the Interministerial Commission for the Information Society to support the Government in monitoring the development of the obligations to promote the Information Society that were assumed by operators granted UMTS licenses.

  • Safer Internet

    The Safer Internet project was started in 2007 with the aim to promote an informed, critical and secure use of the Internet, with awareness on how to protect privacy, by children and young people, by families, by workers and citizens in general.

  • CSIRTs Network

    The FCCN – Foundation for National Scientific Computing operates, within the RCTS – Science, Technology and Society Network, a CSIRT – Computer Security Incident Response Team (CERT.PT (site in Portuguese)) to deal with security threats caused by viruses, spyware and other forms of intrusion.

  • Government PKI

    In June 2006, the SCEE – State Electronic Certification System – Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) for providing qualified electronic signatures for the government.

  • R&D in Cybersecurity

    The security of networks and information systems poses serious problems that require innovative processes of scientific and technological base resulting from strong research and development (R&D). Only in this way it will be possible to achieve decisive improvements in computer, information and communication systems security that reached a very high complexity and interact with many millions of agents.
