The official announcement (in Portuguese) of the opening of a public tender to enter into a contracted Programme with one or several scientific institutions working together with institutions of higher education has been made. This envisages the co-financing of the Invited Chair “Atsutoshi Nishida” by Toshiba Portugal and by Science and Technology Foundation (FCT), within the scope of the Invited Chairs Programme (in Portuguese) of this body which was launched at the Science 2008: More Scientists for Portugal (text in Portuguese) session held at the University of Aveiro on 10 May 2008.
The main aim is to attract a high level researcher currently based abroad to Portugal, for the development and promotion of emerging areas of knowledge, namely through promoting R&D activities and advanced training in the areas of telecommunications and New Generation Networks, advanced information and communication systems, technological change and management of innovation, or in other topics of mutual interest for Toshiba and for University(ies) which may be selected as institution(s) to receive this person.
The agreement upon which this initiative is based was signed on 7 October 2008 between Science and Technology Foundation (FCT), Knowledge Society Agency (UMIC), and Toshiba Portugal, with one of the components of the initiative being more extensive use of the Toshiba Learning and Research Network.
