European Union National ICT Research Directors Forum, Braga

The half-yearly National ICT Research Directors Forum of the European Union will be held on 19th November 2007 in Braga, the day before the High Level Conference on Nanotechnologies. This forum brings together the Directors-General responsible for the field of Information and Communication Technologies in the 27 Member States of the EU and external countries associated with the EU’s Framework Research Programme.

This meeting will be co-chaired by the President of the Knowledge Society Agency (UMIC) and by a representative from the European Commission’s Directorate General for Information Society and Media. It will be dedicated to analysing and discussing aspects related to R&D human resources in ICT, namely:

  • contribution of R&D human resources in ICT to growth and competitiveness,
  • improving attractiveness of students through ICT,
  • promoting the best European ICT researchers working in Europe, namely through flexible R&D careers and better public-private collaboration,
  • attracting the best researchers worldwide to Europe, namely by promoting Europe’s excellence and by setting up joint international research infrastructures.

The meetings and the High Level Conference on Nanotechnology on 19th –21st November 2007 in Braga are being jointly organised by the Knowledge Society Agency (UMIC), the Science and Technology Foundation (FCT), the Setting-up Committee of the International Iberian Nanotechnology Laboratory (INL) and the European Commission’s Directorates-General for Research, Technology and Development and the Information Society and Media.
