Science 2009 - Meeting with Science in Portugal: Topics of Future Internet Highlighted

CIENCIA 2009 logotype The 3rd Meeting with Science in Portugal, organized by the Council of Associate Laboratories in collaboration with the Ministry of Science, Technology and Higher Education will take place 29-30 July 2009 in the Gulbenkian Foundation headquarters building in Lisbon. The opening session will count with the participation of the Prime Minister and of the Minister of Science, Technology and Higher Education.

The sessions of the Meeting CIENCIA 2009 Program are webcasted in real time and a complete recording of the sessions in video and audio will be published for viewing / listening at any time.

This meeting continues the discussion of some of the most important lines of scientific activity in Portugal, as well as scientific and technological advances in areas such as, among many others: New cell therapies, Stem cells, Nutrition, health and food safety, Clinical research in neuroscience, Tropical health, Evolution and biodiversity, Nanoscience, nanotechnology and nanofabrication, Climate change, Environmental sustainability, Oceans, marine resources and biodiversity, Mathematics of complex systems, Migration, immigration and emigration, Citizenship and security, Cognitive preparation for the knowledge society, with the participation of scientific institutions and companies.

The themes of the so called Future Internet, an R&D area that has recently received particular attention in the Information and Communication Technologies and Information Society R&D component of the 7th Framework Programme for Research and Technological Development of the European Union, have a very specila presence in this meeting, like the previous years, particularly with presentations in the following topics: e-Science, Next Generation Networks, Cyber-physical systems for ambient intelligence and critical infrastructures, Science and technology of spoken and written language, Human-Computer interaction and interactive digital content, Medical imaging systems and advanced computing for clinical diagnostics, Applications of mathematics to clinical diagnoses and health, Sustainable energy systems and transports, Electric vehicles and new forms of mobility, Technologies and ystems for Ocean exploration and diagnostics.

Point of encounter and of knowledge sharing between the Portuguese scientific community, this two-day meeting will provide a valuable opportunity to learn about the work of Portuguese scientists in the most relevant areas of activity.
