2nd Meeting of the Steering Committee of the Fraunhofer-Portugal Program
- 08/05/2007The Steering Committee of the Fraunhofer - Portugal Program met on 8 May 2007. This was the 2nd time since this program had begun less than one month previously, on 18 April 2007, under the scope of the Knowledge Networks activities integrated within the Commitment to Science for Portugal’s Future initiative.
The meeting was held in Darmstadt at the Fraunhofer Institute for Computer Graphics Research (IGD) and its objective was to examine aspects of future development of the program, particularly relating to the future Fraunhofer Institute to be located alongside a Portuguese university and for the preparation of the topics for the cooperation program. Among other issues, the legal aspects, financing models, the choice of university and the future Director of the Fraunhofer Institute were analysed, and the preparation of contacts with enterprises in Portugal.
Those who participated in the meeting were the President of Science and Technology Foundation (FCT) João Sentieiro, the President of The Knowledge Society Agency (UMIC), Luis Magalhães, Professor Pedro Guedes de Oliveira, Senior Vice President for Planning Research of FhG, Ulrich Buller, Professor Dieter Rombach, Dr. Georg Rosenfeld from the office of the Presidency of FhG, and Professor José Luis Encarnação, also from FhG. Also present was Dr. Torsten Nyncke of FhG.
Prior to the meeting and the day before, the Portuguese members visited various Fraunhofer Gesellschaft FhG) institutes located in Birlinghoven-Bonn (Institute for Algorithms and Scientific Computing (SCAI), Institute for Intelligent Analysis and Information Systems (IAIS), Institute for Applied Information Technology (FIT)), in Kaiserslautern (Institute for Experimental Software Engineering (IESE), Institute for Industrial Mathematics (ITWM)), and in Darmstadt (Institute for Structural Durability and Reliability (LBF), Institute for Secure Information Technology (SIT), and the Institute for Research into Graphic Computing (IGD)).
