IEFP and Microsoft Portugal reinforce a Cooperation Agreement

Instituto do Emprego e Formação Profissional (IEFP) e a Microsoft Portugal signed on May 4th, 2015, a Memorandum of Intent, , in order to reinforce and expand the scope of the established partnership in 2014, which aimed at creating 30 Microsoft IT Academies in the network of the Centros de Emprego e Formação Profissional do IEFP (Job Centres).

Both entities foresee the training of approximately a million unemployed people within the next three years.

IEFP and Microsoft intend to contribute towards training qualified professionals with digital skills capable of filling the approximately five thousand job offers that will be left vacant unless ICT labour adjustments are made in Portugal. The European Commission estimates that in five years the unfilled positions may reach 900 thousand jobs in Europe.

According to Jorge Gaspar, president of IEFP:

"This reinforcement of qualifications in unemployed people and acquiring ICT skills are currently essential factors that boost and make it easier to enter into and/or return to working life in an integrated fashion with economic dynamics as well as corporate needs and requirements".
