Ricardo Real Pedrosa de Sousa is an Assistant Professor at Autonomous University of Lisbon (UAL) and integrated researcher at OBSERVARE in Portugal. He has a PhD from the International Institute of Social Studies (ISS) Erasmus University of Rotterdam (EUR) in the Netherlands. He was part of the Research School in Peace and Conflict (PRIO / NTNU / UiO) in Norway and associated with the African Studies Center (CEA) Lisbon University Institute (IUL) in Portugal as a researcher on conflict. He has a Master of Science in Development Studies from the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) of the University of London, a post-graduation diploma of advanced studies in African Studies and a Bachelor (Hons) degree in Business Administration, both from the Lisbon University Institute. Previously he worked for the United Nations in Timor-Leste and Guyana and for Deloitte Consulting and PricewaterhouseCoopers in Lisbon, Portugal. The research work is situated in the area of Peace and Conflict studies linking international relations, political science and security studies using a mixed method approach. Areas of interest are civil war and other forms of political violence, the resource curse, external interventions and international institutions for peace and security. He has focused on the African region, Angola, Somalia, the United Nations and the African Union.
