Outras informações relevantes
domain of specialization My research focuses on understanding food web dynamics in marine ecosystems in relation to environmental change.
Responsible for co-leading the Polar science, education and outreach activities of Portugal during and after the International Polar Year.
Research areas: Marine Biology, Behavioural Ecology, Oceanography, Modelling, Foraging and Feeding Ecology Study animals: penguins, albatrosses, seals and other mammals, sharks, conger eels and other fish, turtles and special attention to cephalopods in the diet of top predators.
Study areas: Antarctic and Atlantic Oceans, with fieldwork on islands or on scientific cruises present investigation interests - Behavioural ecology of top predators in relation to climate change in the Antarctic Ocean: will they be able to adapt? - Modelling changes in squid, fish or krill abundance and distribution: do penguins, seals or albatrosses really have a choice on what to eat in the future? - Quantification of the impact of predators in ocean resources: implications on conservation and fisheries management other skills/activities Interested in public understanding of science, particularly linking young scientists, schools, the media, politicians and the general public, in Portugal and internationally.
The activity POLAR WEEKS, co-organized by the Association of Polar Early Career Scientists (APECS) and Polar Educators International (PEI) is presently a major event, which takes polar scientists to schools and produce a wide range of educational activities, under the projects "Profession: Polar Scientist" and "EDUCATION PROPOLAR": cientistapolar.
