Duarte Nuno Ramos Duarte is Assistant Professor at the University of Algarve (UAlg), Portugal, were he is the Director of the Centre for Scientific Diving of the Sciences and Technology Faculty (UAlg), and till October 2013 was Director of the pos-graduate course in Coastal Ecohidrology, was member of the Organizing Committee of the Erasmus Mundus Master course in Ecohydrology, and was member of the Organizing Committee of the degree in Ocean Sciences (UAlg programs). He has been developing research in the Holocene sedimentar evolution and the present hydrodynamics and sediment transport in coastal systems, in the Centre for Marine and Environmental Research (CIMA), and his major research interests include the study of the hydrodynamic water circulation patterns in main channels, tide propagation, distortion and energy dissipation, tidal prism, residence time, and sediment transport rates. His academic background is defined by the PhD done in Marine Sciences, specialization in Marine Geology, in 2008, entitled “Hydrodynamics and Sediment Transport in the Mondego Estuary (Portugal)”, and by the first degree in Geology (specialization in scientific branch), done in University of Coimbra. He has been involved in UAlg undergraduate and masters programs, teaching several subjects in the Ocean Sciences and Earth sciences areas. He his supervising one PhD student, 4 masters’ students, and 10 undergraduates, and he has supervised 5 masters’ students, and 14 undergraduates. He has been involved in 9 European and national funded research projects, and integrated the Organizing Committee of five International Congresses.
