Luisa Maria Dias Pereira. Licenciada em Arquitectura pela FAUP em 2007 (15/20) e Mestre em Energia para a Sustentabilidade em 2011 (17/20) pela FCTUC, concluiu o Doutoramento em Sistemas Sustentáveis de Energia pela Universidade de Coimbra em 2016 (aprovada com Distinção e Louvor por unanimidade do júri). Publicou 6 artigos em revistas especializadas e 12 trabalhos em actas de eventos, possui 1 livro publicado. Possui 13 itens de produção técnica. Tem participação editorial em 6 revistas especializadas como revisora. Recebeu 7 prémios e/ou homenagens e entre 2011-2014 participou em 2 projectos de investigação, finalistas em concursos da especialidade. Actua nas áreas de Engenharia e Tecnologia com ênfase em Engenharia Mecânica e Humanidades com ênfase em Artes/Arquitectura. Abstract: This work was developed in the context of the research project Energy Efficient Schools (Escolas Energeticamente Eficientes, 3Es). Within this project an integrated approach for energy performance and indoor environmental quality assessment in school buildings has been developed aiming at contributing to reduce the energy consumption in school buildings while providing good indoor environmental conditions to the occupants. So far, the results shown that there is a considerable potential for reducing energy consumption and improving energy usage. We believe energy efficiency in school buildings can be achieved through an effective energy management methodology greatly supported by building management systems. This paper aims at creating foundations for energy efficiency plans for school buildings centered on the fundamental role of energy management systems and its adequate parameterization. Based on a real case-study, a primary approach is “scratched” highly centered on the enhancement of operational management practices.

Summary: The main goal of the present study was to investigate/analyze the impact of ventilation requirements on energy consumption for mechanically ventilated educational buildings, considering the energy simulation of two existing school buildings located in different climate zones of Portugal. The schools HVAC systems have been designed in accordance with the national legislation implemented in 2006 based upon the European Directive 2002/91/CE. This regulation prescribed for new buildings, the fresh air flows through a table in which values were set per occupant and per unit area of space. This legislation was being under revision during the last two years in Portugal and started to be mandatory since December 2013. In the present work two Portuguese school buildings were simulated considering the new mechanical ventilation requirements which allow different methods for the calculation of the fresh air flow rates: a prescriptive method based on tabulated values and an analytical method that takes into account the real or predicted occupancy profile and the respective emission rates of bioefluents. Both methods take into account the age and activity level of the occupants. Moreover, night mechanical ventilation effect was also tested. The use of the ventilation requirements of the new legislation shows a potential reduction on the total primary energy consumption of more than 30% in the heating and ventilation components. The simulation of the fresh flow rate of mechanical ventilation showed to be of greater influence in the final energy consumption. Moreover, as regards the definition of the ventilation requirements, the analytical method has shown an energy saving potential over the prescriptive methodology of about 5%. .
