Paula Ludovico graduated in Biology at the University of Porto in 1994 and for 2 years was a Health Superior Technician at the Medical Genetic Institute, Porto. She did a Master thesis on Molecular Genetics at the University of Minho (1999) and concluded in 2002 her PhD in Biological Sciences at the University of Minho. Paula Ludovico was a visiting scientist at the Department of Biological Sciences, Columbia University, New York, USA and at the Department of Neurology, Miami University, Florida, USA. Since 2002, is an Assistant Professor at the School of Health Sciences (ECS) being responsible for the module “From Cellular Anatomy to Physiology” integrated in the curricular area “Molecules and Cells”. Since 2005 is the Coordinator of the curricular unit “Option Project I” and in 2008 was the Coordinator of the curricular area “Option Project”. In 2006 Paula Ludovico was appointed for the coordination of the International Postgraduate Programme and from 2004 to 2007 was a member of the Directive Board of the Life and Health Research Institute representing the Microbiology and Infection Research Domain. In 2009 Paula Ludovico integrated the Directive Commission of Post graduation of ECS. She was a pioneer in the research field of yeast apoptosis and her research goals are the study of programmed cell death pathway(s) using yeast cells as eukaryotic model systems. Paula Ludovico has published 22 peer-reviewed research articles, 2 reviews and 3 book chapters. She supervised 2 masters and a PhD student; currently she supervises 4 PhD students and 1 Master student. She has received 3 awards and honours for her research accomplishments. In addition to academic merits, Paula Ludovico is an Ad hoc reviewer for various international scientific journals.
