M. Teresa Condesso de Melo graduated in Geology from the University of Coimbra (Portugal) in 1992, completed her MSc in Groundwater Hydrology at the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC, Barcelona, Spain) in 1996 and her PhD in Geosciences (Hydrogeology) with a sandwich PhD project at the Hydrogeology Group of the British Geological Survey (BGS, Wallingford, UK) and the University of Aveiro (UA, Aveiro, Portugal) in 2002. She was awarded an ERASMUS Postgraduation grant by the ERASMUS Hydrology and Water Management Interuniversity Cooperation Programme in 1993; a 4-year PhD mixed grant by FCT (BD/9743/96); two consecutive Postdoctoral Fellowships funded by FCT to carry out further post-doctoral research at the UA (SFRH/BPD/14431/2003) and Instituto Superior Técnico (IST, Lisbon) (SFRH/BPD/30775/2006). Presently, her work is funded by a 5-year Post-Doctoral research position at the IST by FCT Science 2007 programme (April 2008-March 2013) and includes a research programme on the development of an integrated methodology to evaluate groundwater recharge and impact of pollution on groundwater baseline composition in urban areas. Since 2006 she has established on a solid base and credentials to move towards independent research. She became a Guest Professor of hydrogeology at the University of Aveiro, responsible for teaching undergraduate students (BSc Geological Engineering; courses Hydrogeology and Hydrology) and graduate students (MSc in Geochemistry; course Groundwater Quality). She is also supervising 6 PhD students (6 Doctoral Grant holders funded by FCT, of which 3 have already presented their thesis) and 7 MSc students. Likewise, she is the Principal Investigator (PI) of 2 research projects funded by FCT (ECOWET and CRUDE). As a researcher she has been contributing to several EU (PALAEAUX, BASELINE, BRIDGE, UTPIA) and FCT (KARSTRISK, FREEZE, IMAGES) funded projects. BASELINE and BRIDGE projects are now important scientific supports to EU Water Policies. She has also been a member of PhD and MSc evaluation panels and performed over 25 peer reviews for 8 ISI-indexed journals. Her list of scientific publications includes 13 peer reviewed papers in International Journals (9 ISI-indexed); 11 peer reviewed chapters in books of International Circulation (7 as first author); and, 2 published books based on the proceedings of international conferences. Additionally, 2 papers (ISI-indexed) and 1 book chapter are currently due for publication.
