1. Pharmacogenetics
Objectivos»Goals: Since 2007 I´ve worked in a Molecular Genetics Lab in the Histocompatibility Center in Coimbra. Here I developed my expertise, for the following five years in Genetics, mainly with Polimerase Chain Reaction (PCR); RT-PCR; DNA Sanger Sequencing and Fragment Analysis (STRs). My work was focused on HLA typing, with genetic techniques (molecular flow cytometry, with LuminexTm technology, and Sequence Base Typing), of potential bone marrow donors for the CEDACE registry. During these five years, I had the opportunity to develop several research projects, in the field of Pharmacogenetics, that included all the design for a Sanger Sequencing approach. The main purpose of my research is to determine how Single Nucleotide Polimorphisms (SNP), correlate to disease progression and/or treatment outcome..
2. Innate Lymphiod Cells In Preterm Birth: A new Role for Progesterone ?
Objectivos»Goals: One of the most complex areas in perinatal-neonatal medicine remains the care of the woman anticipating the delivery of a preterm infant. To address the issues related to knowledge gaps in this area of perinatal medicine, the main focus of this investigation is to establish the mechanism through which progesterone therapy effects are accomplished in preterm labor. The proposed research is relevant to the public health because preterm birth is increasing in prevalence and represents a major national cost, measured by both patient suffering and economic burden..
