Susana Cabaço was born in 1976 in the beautiful Heritage World City of Évora. She graduated in Marine Biology in 1999 at the University of the Algarve, with a final thesis on the study of the seagrass Cymodocea nodosa. The next two years, she joined the EU project Feed-backs of Estuarine Circulation and Transport of Sediments on Phytobenthos (F-ECTS) on the complex interactions occurring between phytobenthos communities, hydrodynamics, nutrient cycling and sediment transport on estuarine and lagoonal ecosystems. From 2001 to 2004, she participated in a EU project ?Monitoring and Managing of European Seagrass Beds (M&MS)? while developing the research for her PhD. In 2005/2006, she worked on a project on the impact of urban wastewater discharges on the marine vegetation in the Algarve. After that, she joints the FCT project ?Global-related changes in the Portuguese marine flora over a long time scale (FLORA)?. She completed her PhD in 2007 at the University of Algarve on the impact of the anthropogenic activities on the seagrass Zostera noltii. In 2007, she joints the Life project ?Restoration and Management of Biodiversity in the Marine Park Site Arrábida-Espichel (PTCON0010)? coordinating the task of cultivation of seagrass from seeds and propagation of seagrass shoots to be used in restoration. At the moment, as a post-doc researcher, she works on the development of seagrass bioindicators to assess the environmental quality of coastal and transitional systems. She participates on the executive coordination of the European project ECO-LAGUNES: Environmental management of shellfish production lagoon areas, under the Programme of Territory Cooperation of the European Southeast Space (SUDOE, Interreg IV B); of the national project EEMA ?Evaluation of the Ecological State of Coastal and Transitional Waterbodies and of the Ecological Potential of the Highly Modified Waterbodies?, and of the international seagrass monitoring programme SeagrassNet (http://www.seagrassnet.org/) in the Ria Formosa lagoon.
