I obtained my PhD degree in Chemistry in July of 2012 at University of Minho in Portugal. The emphasis of my studies was on amino acid and peptide synthesis and in the study of the photophysical properties of the new amino acids. I had a research scholarship for 2 years (2006-2008) and then I started my PhD with a grant from the Portuguese “Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia”. Since 2006 I am a co-author of 14 papers in international journals and of 20 communications in conferences (3 oral communications and 17 poster presentations). During my research I had the opportunity to use several types of reactions, such as Michael addition and substitution reactions, Suzuki-Miyaura cross-couplings, Ullmann-type couplings, rhodium-catalyzed additions and cyclization reactions. I performed fluorescence and phosphorescence studies of the compounds prepared. I have also experience with the preparation and characterization of hydrogels. During my PhD program I had also the opportunity to help in the supervision of undergraduate students.
