Antonio Fabrizio Panico is an Italian Civil Engineer (member of the Italian Order of Engineers) and a PhD student of the Doctoral Program in Civil Engineering at FEUP, oriented by Prof. António Viana da Fonseca (FEUP) and Prof. Jean Vaunat (UPC - Barcelona). His area of specialization in the last year of Master's Degree at Pisa University was Transportation Engineering, in which he had the possibility to study the different construction materials that are the base for roads and railways infrastructure. Both Bachelor's and Master's degree theses were focused on geotechnics. The former was developed in the Geotechnics Laboratory of Pisa University and the latter in the Technical University of Civil Engineering of Bucharest (Romania). This experience abroad gave him the possibility to live and study in a different context, improving his language and cooperating skills. At present he is a researcher of the Geotechnical Laboratory of FEUP (Porto) and his PhD thesis is focusing on studying the cyclic properties of a soil-cement mixture. The experimental part of his work mainly consists of a large set of long duration cyclic triaxial tests, with a duration of 1 million cycles. He is also developing a theoretical model based on the experimental work in collaboration with Technical University of Catalonia (UPC) (Barcelona), co-oriented by Professor Jean Vaunat (UPC). Basing on part of the tests results he co-authored three scientific papers published in international Journal and two scientific papers presented in conference.
