Environmental protection at the ECB
As a European institution, we have a role to play in protecting the environment and fighting climate change. To improve our environmental performance and reduce our carbon footprint as much as possible we adopted an environmental policy in 2007 and have been registered with the European Eco-Management and Audit Scheme (EMAS) since 2010.
Since 2008, we have:
reduced our carbon emissions per workplace by 74%
reduced our energy consumption per workplace by 54%
reduced our office paper consumption per workplace by 69%
In 2019 we have:
eliminated hazardous substances from the cleaning process by using non-chemical methods
joined forces with the European Parliament to offset remaining CO2 emissions
enabled electronic submission of public tenders so as to reduce paper consumption
at the ECB
