This area connects the research coming from the arts and humanities with that of cognitive neurosciences and technology to investigate the creative potential and epistemic functions of gestural diagrams that is, ways in which body diagrams may serve to trigger and establish new thoughts. It also aims at inquiring how brain activity, both of beholders and producers of artworks, can be altered by artistic experience. This research is directly connected with the ways in which our brains/material minds/embodied sensory existences respond to artworks, namely in theatre, performance, film, painting, photography and architecture.
