2. Cartography and Photography: the role of José Júlio Rodrigues in the development of photomechanical methods:

- Interpretation of the chemical/ physical processes involved in the method of indirect printing of colour, from the work of Charles Cros (1842-1888) and Louis Ducos du Hauron (1837-1920) to José Júlio Rodrigues (1843-1893) and Charles Eckstein’s contributions;
- Study of the instruments, cameras, objectives and printing instruments kept in the collection of the Portuguese Geographic Institute (IGP) used in these photomechanical processes for map producing and geodesic studies;
- Research of the relations between the most important centers of map producing in photomechanical techniques in Europe: Portugal, France, England, Germany and Austria.
