Mission
To support the definition of the politics and strategies of information and communication technologies (ICT) under the scope of the Ministry of Finance and Public Administration, and to ensure the planning, conception, execution and evaluation of information technology initiatives and technical actualization of the services and organizations, in order to assure an effective and rational management of the available resources.
History
The Information Technology Institute was founded in 1977, as the Data Processing Center of the Ministry of Finance.
In 2007, the Information Technology Institute was integrated in the direct administration of the State, having as main duties, the definition of the politics and strategies of information and communication technologies under the scope of the Ministry of Finance and Public Administration.

The new structure proposed for Information Technology Institute assures the development of a philosophy of shared services in the following areas:
- Standardization in the IT area
- Organizational and technical support
- Aplicational solutions
- Lodging and management of IT
- Information Center and Library
- Printing
Structure
The Information Technology Institute is an agency with competencies in the definition of politics and strategies of information and communication technologies of the Ministry of Finance and Public Administration.
In the coordination field, the coordinator council is an organ of the Information Technology Institute - a sectorial coordination entity - chaired by a delegate of the Minister of the State and Finance and composed by the delegates of all the agencies of the direct and indirect administration of the State, within the Ministry of Finance and Public Administration. His mission is to approve the ICT strategic planning for the Ministry of Finance and Public Administration and the execution report.
The management of the Information Technology Institute is assured by a general director and two deputy directors general.
