Maíra Aguiar. Concluiu o doutoramento em Biologia, com especialização em Biologia Populacional pela Universidade de Lisboa e o doutoramento em Ciências da Vida pela Universidade de Amsterdão em 2012. É Investigador Auxiliar na Universidade de Lisboa. Publicou 13 artigos em revistas especializadas e 12 trabalhos em actas de eventos, possui 1 livro publicado. Possui 64 itens de produção técnica. Participou em 16 eventos no estrangeiro e 10 em Portugal. Recebeu 3 prémios e/ou homenagens. Entre 2002 e 2008 participou em 4 projectos de investigação. The First Workshop "Dynamical Systems applied to Biology and Natural Sciences" will be held at the Centro de Matemática e Aplicações Fundamentais (CMAF), Lisbon University, in Portugal, from February 1 to 3, 2010. Area of scientific activity: A) Epidemiology of infectious diseases: Serological Diagnosis and Epidemiological Data Analysis.
Responsible of dengue and yellow fever labs at Ezequiel Dias Foundation, Brazil.
In my research, results of immunological testing were combined with epidemiological data to create a comprehensive database, which was made available to public health authorities in order to control the impact of epidemics, promote control strategies and optimize health care provision.
B) Mathematical Modeling: Epidemic models development and data analysis.
Presently, my research crosses the different epidemiological areas of infectious diseases by developing mathematical models which can be used by public health authorities as a tool to predict, understand the transmission of the disease and develop and evaluate the introduction of intervention strategies including vector control and vaccination.
Present research interests: Mathematical modeling applied to infectious diseases: Development on interdisciplinary research networks, including mathematical models of infectious disease parametrized in epidemiological data at the national and the international level, with special focus on the study of dengue fever, and its dynamics systems with in the cultural, social and political environment.
