Bio || Bio Liliana Coutinho

Pietro Conte is a FCT Researcher in Aesthetics at the Centre for Philosophy of Sciences of the University of Lisbon. After having successfully defended his PhD thesis in Aesthetics at the University of Siena, he spent two years abroad on a postdoc scholarship at the University of Basel (2007-2009). Between 2011 and 2015, before joining the CFCUL, Pietro worked as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the Department of Philosophy at the University of Milan. In 2009 he was awarded the New Aesthetics Prize provided by the Italian Society of Aesthetics, and he is currently focusing on the question of mimicry, hyperrealism, and the boundaries of aesthetic representation.

Among his publications are numerous papers in the field of art theory as well as two comprehensive monographs: In carne e cera. Estetica e fenomenologia dell'iperrealismo (Flesh and Wax. Aesthetics and Phenomenology of Hyperrealism) and Mito e tradizione. Johann Jakob Bachofen tra estetica e filosofia della storia (Myth and Tradition. Johann Jakob Bachofen between Aesthetics and Philosophy of History). He also edited the first Italian translations of Erwin Panofsky's Tomb Sculpture (La scultura funeraria, Einaudi 2011), Julius von Schlosser's Geschichte der Porträtbildnerei in Wachs (Storia del ritratto in cera, Quodlibet 2011) and Adolf Portmann's Die Tiergestalt (La forma degli animali, Raffaello Cortina 2013).
