Nelson Soares obtained a PhD in Sustainable Energy Systems (SES) from the University of Coimbra in the framework of the MIT-Portugal SES Program. He holds a master's degree in Energy for Sustainability in the specialization area of Indoor Climate and Comfort from the University of Coimbra (2011). He also holds a master's degree in Civil Engineering in the specialization area of Constructions (2008) and a 5-years degree in Civil Engineering (2007), both from the University of Coimbra. He is a research member of both the ADAI-LAETA (Association for the Development of Industrial Aerodynamics - Associated Laboratory for Energy, Transports and Aeronautics) and the ISISE (Institute for Sustainability and Innovation in Structural Engineering) research centers. His research is focused on the study of renewable energy based applications of phase change materials (PCMs) in construction solutions towards the improvement of the energy performance of buildings. His research interests include sustainability, thermal behavior and energy efficiency of buildings, passive thermal energy storage systems, dynamic simulation of energy in buildings, light steel framing and numerical and experimental assessment of the heat transfer with phase change. Nelson Soares is co-author of several publications in the mentioned topics.
