Bibliometry

FCT commissioned a bibliometric study from the Center for Science and Technology Studies (CWTS) of the University of Leiden. The aim of the study was to map the scientific contributions of research units and Associate Laboratories that, in 2011, were supported by FCT via the pluriannual funding scheme. The study provides information on the publications of each of the funded institutions that are registered on the WoS – Web of Science.

Each FCT-funded research unit and Associate Laboratory provided a listing of scientific output, which formed the basis of the study. In October 2012, FCT surveyed all 319 institutions; scientific output from 278 institutions was received and analysed by CWTS.

Selection of the scientific output was based on the following criteria:

  • Bibliographic references included in the WoS Citation Indexes, namely: Science Citation Index Expanded (SCI-EXPANDED), Social Sciences Citation Index (SSCI), Arts & Humanities Citation Index (A&HCI), Conference Proceedings Citation Index - Science (CPCI-S) e Conference Proceedings Citation Index - Social Science & Humanities (CPCI-SSH);
  • With indication of the WoS Accession Number for each bibliographic reference;
  • Year of publication between 2007 and 2011 (including 2011);
  • Publications in which at least one integrated member of the research units or Associate laboratory is an author, between 2007 and 2011, with at least one Portuguese affiliation in the WoS bibliographical record.
