International Call for Applications for
1000 Post Doctoral
research positions
in portuguese scientific institutions
Announcement
In compliance with the Government Program and subsequent to a prior call for applications to select host scientific institutions, this public notice is to announce the opening of an international call for applications for 1000 PhD research positions, to be contracted under the individual employment contract regime.
Specific calls for applications are open for each selected institution under the following conditions:
- The PhDs to be hired, whether they are Portuguese or foreign nationals, must have at least 3 years of relevant post-doctoral experience and scientific production.
- The calls for applications will be open for a minimum period of two months and should, as a rule, close by 30 August 2007.
- All calls for applications will be announced jointly on a national portal of the FCT cited in the international scientific press.
- The jury for each call for applications will be made up of specialists of indisputable reputation and scientists from outside the institution, including specialists from other countries. The composition of the juries and the curricula of its members will be published on the Portuguese portal.
- The FCT will serve as the board of appeal for decisions made by the contracting institutions.
The list of the institutions already selected along with the number of open positions for this call for applications is available on the FCT portal. The institutions may, in special cases, establish and resort to waiting lists.
Other scientific institutions may apply for program contracts on their own initiative, after applications for pre-selection have been considered, under the same conditions as those described above. Program contracts will be signed only after the FCT has evaluated the merit of the institution and of the candidates pre-selected and proposed by the institution.
Lastly, individual applications will be accepted from researchers who do not find positions that are appropriate to their area of research in the above mentioned institutions and who request advice and assistance in finding a position in Portugal.

According to the Notice of the international call for applications for 1000 PhD research positions in portuguese scientific institutions, PhDs to be hired whether they are Portuguese or foreign nacionals, should have at least 3 years of relevant post-doctoral experience and scientific production.
In exceptional cases, duly justified, FCT may consider accepting applicants with less than 3 years of post-doctoral experience.
