The Arquivo.pt Award was created to promote the use of the websites preserved by Arquivo.pt. It aims to encourage and recognize the investigation and discovery of useful applications of the Portuguese web archive for society.
The Arquivo.pt is a research infrastructure managed by FCT, which allows searching and accessing archived web pages since 1996. The main goal is the preservation of information published on the web for memory, study and research purposes.
Millions of web pages are published daily, and the amount of information that is exclusively published in this medium has been increasing rapidly in recent years. However, after relatively little time, the vast majority of this information is no longer available and is hopelessly lost. Archiving and preserving the information published on the Portuguese Web allows this knowledge to be accessible to future generations.
This call will reward original and innovative works that demonstrate the usefulness of the service and the importance of preserving and using the information published on the web. Papers should have the Arquivo.pt as the main source of information, and have practical application or complete research studies based on information preserved from the web by Arquivo.pt.
The three best ranked works will be awarded:
- 1st place: 10 000 euros
- 2nd place: 3 000 euros
- 3rd place: 2 000 euros
This call is open to everyone interested, either individually or in groups, but the application must be submitted on behalf of one person responsible.
