1st call for bilateral research projects
GENERAL INFORMATION
Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia (FCT) and the Fundo para o Desenvolvimento das Ciências e da Tecnologia (FDCT), from the Macao Special Administrative Region signed a Memorandum of Understanding in 2017 with the aim of encouraging cooperation between research and development institutions from Macao and Portugal.
Under the aforementioned Memorandum, the 1st bilateral call for the funding of joint Scientific Research and Technological Development projects is open between June 12 and July 26, 2019.
This call is intended to support projects in marine sciences, in the following themes:
- Marine pollution, including the effects of plastics or other emerging pollutants in the marine ecosystem conducting to the development of mitigation strategies;
- Marine biotechnology, including the characterization and optimization of the existing meta-bolic pathways that could conduct to the development of commercialized products (health, renewable energies, among others).

FUNDING
For this call, the foreseen overall amount of funding available is 300.000 €. The maximum amount to be requested by the Portuguese teams per project is 100.000 €. The maximum duration of projects is 36 months. The FDCT will fund Macao teams.
HOW TO APPLY
The application for the joint project must be submitted by the Portuguese team, in English, to FCT by July 26, 2019, until 17:00, by filling the Application Form. You can visualize the full form on the Example of the Application Form for consultation.
Applications submitted to the FCT must be accompanied by a Declaration of Commitment.
Applications that are not submitted to both institutions will not be considered for evaluation.
EVALUATION AND SELECTION OF PROPOSALS
Proposals considered eligible will be evaluated by FCT and FDCT, according to the methodology and evaluation criteria established in the Call Text. Afterwards, FCT and FDCT will jointly analyze both evaluations and select the proposals to be funded.
