E-Rare-3: ERA-NET for Research Programmes on Rare Diseases
ERA-NET E-Rare-3 was a project aimed to extend and strengthen the transnational cooperation on rare disease research funding organisations, which took place between 2014 and 2020. By building on the experience and results of the previous ERA-NET programmes E-Rare and E-Rare-2, it provided an international model platform for implementing Joint Transnational Calls. The consortium comprised 26 institutions from 17 European, Associated and non-European countries. Its international dimension was translated into close collaboration with the International Rare Diseases Research Consortium IRDiRC and other relevant European and international initiatives.
The ERA-Nets E-Rare, E-Rare-2 and E-Rare-3 have successfully implemented, since 2006, a total of ten Joint Transnational Calls for rare disease research projects. This effort is now continued in the frame of the European Joint Programme on Rare Diseases (EJP RD), which was established to further help in coordinating the research efforts of European, Associated and non-European countries in the field of rare diseases and implement the objectives of the International Rare Disease Research Consortium (IRDiRC).
