The European Institute of
Innovation and Technology (EIT), an organisation of the European Union,
integrates higher education, research and business in areas of high societal
need through Knowledge
and Innovation Communities (KICs). The aim of EIT is to increase European
sustainable growth and competitiveness by reinforcing the innovation capacity
of the EU. KICs gather hundreds of partners in co-location centres across
Europe.
FCT aims to support Portuguese research teams in joining the new KICs,
through the establishment of co-location centres in Portugal. Towards this
end, FCT launches a call for business plans for the implementation of
co-location centres of a KIC. The selected proposal(s) are expected to
integrate European consortia applying to the 2016 and 2018 EIT call for KICs
(EIT-KIC-2016 and EIT-KIC-2018).
The R&D areas addressed in this call are: added value manufacturing, Food4Future (in 2016) and Urban mobility (in 2018).
This call is fully funded by national funds via the Ministry of Education and Science, with an overall budget of €300 000.
Each approved proposal shall receive up to €50 000, covering the period of time up to submission to the 2016 and 2018 EIT-KIC calls by the European consortium in which the Portuguese co-location centre is integrated.
Applications should involve key actors from the three sides of the knowledge triangle: research, higher education, and industry.
Researchers and research teams from the following organisations may apply: higher education institutions and associated research centres; Associated Laboratories; State Laboratories; private non-profit institutions (dedicated to R&D); companies (within proposals led by public or private, non-profit research institutions, and other public or private, non-profit organisations that carry out scientific research.
Applications should be submitted online between 18th June and 5pm (Lisbon time), 22nd October 2014.
